Birthplace of Jesus

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6

“The birth of Jesus is the sunrise in the Bible,” said Henry Jackson van Dyke Jr, an American author, educator, diplomat, and clergyman. Never has a truer word been spoken. Our Lord Jesus Christ is as historic as He is divine. His divine conception, birth, life, death and resurrection are historical facts and the foundation of our very faith. No wonder millions of people throng to the actual birth site of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem year after year. But visiting the Holy Land is not practically possible for multitudes. Many wish to be in the vicinity of that Holy place where the Lord was born. Sadly, that dream remain unfulfilled due to the lack of money or ill health. Well, God Almighty saw this pain and found a way out through his blessed servant – Br Mathew Vergis.

If you wish to see how Jesus’ Birthplace looks, just visit The Museum of the World in Vembayam, Thiruvananthapuram. The museum showcases a replica of the Holy place that looks uncannily similar to the real one in Bethlehem. Br Vergis, who has visited the Holy Land many times, was deeply involved in the reconstruction of this Holy site. And his dedication shows. The detailing of the floor and the hanging lamps are near perfect. Standing in front of it, feels like being transported to the Holy Land.

This experience is of great spiritual importance to those who are firmly rooted in their belief in Christ Almighty. Casual visitors also cannot help marvel at the fact that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords chose a tiny manger as His birthplace. The exhibit at the Museum of the World offers another opportunity to reflect upon the Christian values of humility, simplicity and total surrender to the will of the all-knowing, all-loving God Almighty.
